I found a CA-2010 at my local Thrift Shop this afternoon. Damn, I don't know why they still call themselves Thrift because this thing was $130. While testing without speakers, I could hear the relay click. Two of the feet were broken off but no matter, I have spares. Cosmetically, it is a decent seven out of ten. I thought about it for 30 seconds and pulled the trigger.

It's playing right now and running cool, which is always a concern with Yamaha's. I pulled the feet off a derelict TC-1000. They are the same style as the originals but a touch shorter. No matter, I always thought the stock feet were too high and gave the CA-2010 a "waiting for a flood" look. All controls are dead quiet, which considering the grime is a pleasant surprise. This thing runs better than my minty CA-2010.

The CA-2010 is playing through a pair of NS-200M's and sounding decently good but not great. I won't pull any punches because the CA-2010 has never been a favorite. It doesn't do anything wrong, but it just doesn't pull any strings with me. At just over a dollar a watt, I'm happy with my deal.

without any significant operational issues i'd say you did quite well. i always liked the Yamaha's of the mid-to-late 70's. for equipment within their class, i dont think they took a backseat to anyone.

You did good, but true what you say about the thrifts. Hadn't been to SVdP in a long time and stopped by today. Price of albums went to $4 . Even with Saturdays 1/2 off it's a little dear considering their selection. Funny thing is I picked up 18 pieces of Fiestaware for $15. The local SA's are all over the place on prices. Apparently they now do all the pricing at the warehouse and they think all audio is a goldmine. All tt's are $32.50 and so are speakers, each . I did find at one store they are willing to bargain some. Problem is when they get too focused they miss on other things (like the Fiesta). Prices at Savers are up but not as much as the others but you have to be there when the stuff comes out or it can get thrashed. I guess that is a problem everywhere though.

Yes, all true. LP's are still a dollar around here but most are scratched, bent, or scuffed through the jacket. CD's are $3 in some stores!

Good point on getting something first out. Most stuff gets damaged on the pickup van and in the storage bins. I think that is how the feet got knocked off, which are cheaply made despite the metal accent. There were a couple BPC receivers sitting on top of the CA that scratched the top. And the veneer on the side had started to delaminate but did not break off. Nothing super bad, the case will look good again.

albums here fluctuate constantly between a set price of $.50 and $3, CDs $.25 to $3. Vinyl being "in" right now the prices reflect accordingly, and CDs are growing moldy on the racks.

I'm still buying both formats, and lately have made some cheap CD purchases.

Records? Not so much....

I run my CA-2010 in class A and yes, it does run a bit warm.

My 2010 happens to be one of my favorite amps. I might run it back into the rotation.

Hi Reedger! My minty (God I hate that term!) w/box CA-2010 sits quietly on the shelf and gets played only to remind me of the sound. This one in this thread has already found a new home.
