Small (portable?) Cassette player for cassette to CD conversion?

Anyone know of a decent small cassette player to transfer cassettes over to CDs?

I'd love to be able to transfer my cassettes (not many) to CD, and remove the standard-size cassette player from my rack.

Suggestions?

Portable is fine, as is small desktop models. Doesn't have to be a standard deck size. Actually, I prefer it not to be.

am i missing something or cant you simply run a patch cord from the tape rec/ tape out to your sound card and use sound recording software to dub to the hard drive?

The only one that really would have high fidelity specs that I can think of would be the discontinued Marantz PMD430.

They were made for many years... I remember seeing them on the shelf in hi-fi stores in the late 70's.

There's one on That Auction Site right now.

You are spot on regarding the patch cable method, Scott.

My goal however, is to gain shelf space by eliminating the cassette player and having a smaller-footprint portable to yank out of the storage bin only when need it.

It purely is only to reduce the cassette footprint in order to gain shelf space for the rest of the gear.
I use cassette nominally- a new cassette score, space-wise, is better for me to immediately convert it to CD.

Frees up another shelf on my main kit.

That's a pretty nice unit. I was hoping to get out of it cheaper, but that may be my only option, eh?

I very recently scored a Denon DRR-M31 on eBay, and it is about half the usual size. No room is "wasted" on meters, and the buttons are really small. I got it for a shade over twenty bucks, it was made in China, and it was a bit scruffy on the outside, but the heads and capstans were absolutely pristine! Sounds great. The cassette goes in and out on a drawer horizontally, like a CD. It has replaced a honking big, heavy Onkyo unit in my system.
