I think it is a good thing to put the Tripath chip amp in another case. In addition, I think it deserves it. That little piece of audio hi-tech also deserves better caps – you can do it easy – and a better power supply instead of batteries.
There are some T-Amp case examples here at ST in the links and digital topics.
Imo a wooden case is much easy and safer to work with, and the crossover between wood (an organic material) and digital is very appealing. In addition, wood is current neutral and has antistatic and anti-electromagnetic properties.
I am not sure what the kind of paint I will do in my case …for now I will just put a sticker on it.

One more thing. If it is difficult for you to find a good power supply you can always find one for example for computer purposes and then build yourself an audio filter like this one ( pic below ) I'd made a few years ago, it's very simple to build and very efficient.
Also you can find similar and interesting current filters in some washing machines or other appliances. Many appliances nowadays have current filters because they have more and more electronic components and technology. Like many other electronic devices, both need current filters and ferrite rings. We can use them to our own purposes.
I use one of them I took from a busted washing machine – later I'll put some pics – in the main current outlets to my audio gear, and I'm content with it. Every little thing in audio counts for me. Sometimes I can listen to some changes, other times I cannot. Even though, I know that I have done a good thing filtering some of the trash that comes from outside electric current into our homes.
Have fun.
