Todd made me an awesome deal on a Sansui 1000A tube amp this weekend at the NW fest. I LOVE it. Yeah it has some issues but the aux in works as does the volume and tone controls and that's really all I need. Love the sound of this amp and heck if it does not have some kick to it.
Question, what ohm rating with this work with? I seriously thinking of bi-amping my maggies with this and a SS amp for some subs. 4 ohm loads should be easy for this amp right?
This is my second tube amp and 1st fully functioning. (I have a fisher tube amp that needs some help.
I believe it is circa "68, and I could be wrong but back in the day, wasnt most speakers 4ohm? but I am not sure, as for bi-amping, scott bi-amped his ar9's with the 1000a on the highs.
I wasnt really using the reciever, I am glad that you will use it and enjoy it, I certainly liked the sound, but it really limited me with only the aux working, I do believe you will get a lot of hours out of that reciever,
was glad to sell that to someone who will use it and not try to flip it the next day for a profit,

btw Crooner has a pristine 1000a, he might know fore sure.
Crap, so i should not have sold it last night for $450?
Have you tried the 1000a on your maggies yet?
No but working on plans to use my external XO and run the maggies on the 1000 for the top end and mids and a SS amp for the bottom end. Should be fun to see the results.
Thanks again.
Oh, you mentioned some work had been done to it. Do you know what work and what i might need to get handled in the near future. I understand tube amps take some upkeep.
It's my understanding on these that if the coupling caps have not been replaced you need to replace them asap.
replaced the tubes, rebuilt the power supply, and then he was talking and talking, and I didnt understand a thing he said. I think he re-did a lot of things to it, it was in a non-working condition when I got it, as a matter of fact, it took a couple months for the gas smell to go away. "it lived on a shop bench unused for about 20 years".
so I am not a lot of help with for ya.

Thank you, very concise and informational
Now that we are having a heat wave, are you going to use the little 1000a heater to keep your house toasty, btw, are you still using it?
