Hi Tom, I think the PA100 was manufactured 1957-58; PA100MK1 in 1959; and not sure about the rest, though I suspect as early as the mid 50's, especially for that first pic, The HI-FI Custom Tuner.

Tell me Greg, it's a 50's amp isn't it ?! With a TV input...?! just amazing. rolleyes.gif Can you please tell more about the "compensator" knob.
Tanx for sharing.

thanks for the compliment Alvaro, I really like her. Not too sure of her age, but I suspect in the 50's somewheres, now I need to find another! I can tell you about the Compensator Switch though, the seller included a copy of the Owner's Manual! biggrin.gif

AES: audio engineering society
ORTHO: orthophonic
NARTB: national assoc of radio and tv brodcasters
EARLY78: (I guess this means old ones, LoL!!)
FFRR: full frequency range records
FLAT: flat tongue.gif

qoute from the manual;

"In the manufacture of records, the treble range is pre-emphasized(boosted) to mask surface noise and the bass range de-emphasized in volume to conserve groove space and reduce distortion. All manufacturers do not record with the same amount of treble pre-emphasis and bass de-emphasis and, therefore, a series of settings for varrying degrees of compensation is required." (kinda goes along with your Loudness Thread, sorta)

in the manual it lists many recording companies and the suggested setting, neat!

Incredible information from a 50's amp... blink.gif stills very actual for nowadays recordings.
I never saw or read something about Electrohome Amps but now i'm definitively a big fan. user posted image Tanx.

and too think i could of had that amp before greg biggrin.gif anyways congrats greg .i will give you the title of the electrohome guy (just dont try to take away my title tongue.gif )she shure looks clean greg my hats off to you for finally getting it.

a little more insight into the compesator .back in the old days alot of the record manufactuerers all had their own way of recording records and they all had different ways of doing it(eq settings) hence the different curves found on many preamps for selecting the best way for the record to sound.they all eventually adopted the riaa curve and thats what we use today.the contour knob will and should adjust the the soundstage of the amp or vary the loudness compesation of the amp(havnt heard the amp but different companies called it diffrent things)

so greg whats the tube compliment? looks like from the pic 2 6v6 , 1 5y3
1 6sn7 , 1 6j5? and a 12au7 or? am i close?

take care and enjoy your new toy soundt/action-smiley-035.gif just wish i'd gotten my GOTTS before you gott your amp.regards,
chris

I still say they have an incredible looks. The minimalist design are very apeeling for my personal taste.
Enjoy and have lots of fun with that great vintage "toys".

me too Alvaro, I wish you could hear them sing!

as an aside, cotur75 has had his PA100's listed numerous times over the past year or so, with no bids. That's finally changed... http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewIt...40181&rd=1&rd=1

I went and seen them awhile back while picking up WhiteSE's ampex monos, man they were in fantastic shape!
