The plinth is a 2 piece. IKEA sells a table for 12 dollars so 2 tables are needed. They guy I bought the table from did the job. I had the same idea and was suprised when I found someone close by that had already did the work for me.

Then a carefull cutout is done on both pieces each cutout being different in size.. Lining it with soft rubber. Ther is a rubber lining between the to tables tops as well for more insolation.

Heres what the inside of the cutout looks like. Its a honecomb grid pattern.

Heres the table in my room. The table sits on a VPI TT rack with lead shot filled legs. Then 3 mapleshade 2" brass cones support a 1" thick piece of MDF. On the MDF are 4 Vibrapods that the TT sites on. This so far is the quie-*test*-('") setup by far to date.

Thanks for moving this. After thinking about it I was going to ask you to do that.

Pratical, cheap and imaginative. I like it very much. Tanx for sharing it with us.

Thanks all! I would like to make a VERY heavy custom plinth in a non conforming shape filled with sand or shot and add a second arm with a great vintage mono cartridge.
BTW. If anyone here can help me with a SME headshell I'd like another so I can try some carts I have quickly.
Also. I live in central California and I dont know how many live close by but I will be doing some house cleaning soon. Speakers, amps, etc.... even some freebies here first.

Charlie, have you taken a look at the Micarta that Larry (bentpencil) has for sale here? That could make for very nice plinth material being that it's very dense, very heavy, and very non-resonant.
