Does anyone of you tighten the screws around the speakers drivers in your speaker cabinets?
I haven't done that for a long time, so today i've done it in my Paradigm's - some srews were really loose - and i'm amazed by the tight bass and more detail they sound now. smile.gif

Any time I have to work on ANY of my equipment, I always grab a screwdriver and tighten stuff.

That's a habit I learned at the bean warehouse where I worked prior to opening my own business. We were having with some of the machinery in the place and called one of the local old-timer electricians. He spent half a day opening all the circuit breaker boxes, mag starters, and relay boxes and tightened all of the lugs. Cured our problems, and dropped our monthly mill bill from $8000 to about $6500. Went to my parents house, did the same thing, and lowered their average bill about $50.

If you live in an older place, it's a good idea (if you're qualified) to go in your main service panel and any sub-panels, and tighten all the screws, especially in the circuit breakers.

It's amazing the problems a loose screw can cause.

I know perfectly what you mean. soundt/thumbup.gif
Twenty years ago i was working as an electrician in a big brick factory, and one of our monthly tasks were to tightened all the screws in the big electric boards.
Now, everything is more electronic than before, with fuses, time delays, contactors and relays... We took almost a week to tighten up all the screws. ohmy.gif Anyway...sometimes in this hobby of ours we are so focused in upgrade this and that than we forget some of the basics in audio, like...........tighten some screws...

Its a once a year ritual that I do with all my speakers, quite tedious as I have quite a few of them. But the sound is well worth the hard work.

At one point I started getting some odd sounds out of my Heresy's, I thought I had a speaker going bad only to find that the screws holding the woofer in place were loose.

Tightening screws is a good thing!

i found out its a good idea to apply this to your wire connections as well.

i was getting intermittent distortion through the left midrange yesterday. i thought it was the attenuator switch as they are notorious for getting gunked up, but the problem was inconsistent and completely random. gave a peek to the speaker wire connections and sure enough, one banana plug worked itself loose and was barely making contact. reset the plug and problem cured. i think i'll try spades.

I learned a long time ago that those cheapo wire crimpers are one of the worst things you can buy, too.
