I grilled some steaks last night. I'm not a huge fan but they were free. A little too rich for me. Anyone here like them?

prepared correctly it can be ok, i dont know how to do it but i know it involves lots of vinegar. venison works best as jerky imo.

OK if you can't get beef or horse. It makes good stew.

no, no, no, the only way to cook vinison is to flour it, salt and pepper, be liberal with wesson oil in the cast iron pan, and cook it hot, try not to burn, and when it starts to bleed through the flour on top, you turn the steaks over and cook till it is browned on the other side. boom its a flavor all in its own.

Here in Illinios the Deer eat better than the cattle. Around hunting season they will eat primarily corn, this cleans out most all of the wild taste. I fix mine like elroy descibes with the exception that I save bacon grease to fry mine in, I also tend to fry it a bit slower, the meat is tender enough to slice it with a fork. After frying the meat I make some excellent milk gravy with the remaining grease.

Between my son and I hunting I buy very little beef in a year. Deer meat is much better for you than beef by the way.

Even the way I cook it, you would be surprised but its not tough either, unless you really over cook it. and the heat cooks most of the wildness out of it. I think thats why the hot and fast method works for it.
