Hi Everyone,

I also have a Wadia WT3200 transport. I've had it modified and I am very pleased with it. I've read here that the transport is a Philips CDM1, but I do not think this is true. The person who modified it is very sure that it is a CDM4 and not a CDM1. Can someone cornfirm this?

Sonik

The Wadia WT3200 indeed contains Philips` world-renowned cast alloy CDM1 mechanism.
BTW, can you please tell us what kind of mods have you made in yours?! smile.gif

Gonna upgrade the EAD?

Wadia gonna upgrade it with? (Sorry- bad pun).

Keep me in mind for the EAD if you sell it- I'd be interested. Love my PS Audio, but would also like a second one for a second system (though I scored an Entech cheap, and have a Sony DAT with a built-in model).

The PS Audio has been my favorite, and an EAD is similar in sound.

i'll show you mine if you show me yours ....

we could swap dac's for a while just to see how they sound.

A good source (a friend who knows a bigwig in the current DAC building world) compares them favorably to each other. They should sound nearly identical.

The Superlink is followed by the Ultralink, then both models get an upgrade (Superlink II & Ultralink II).

The "II" version is improved sound, the "super" moniker compared to "Ultra" is the "Ultra" has more connection options. The "Ultra" may also have some improved chips, but been unable to really prove or deny this.

The Ultralink II is supposedly marginally (and only a tiniest bit) better than the EAD, I've been told, so my guess is my Superlink II is marginally shy of what the EAD is, in connectivity, and maybe the sligh-*test*-('") bit of performance.

The chipset appears to be 20-bit, 8x oversampling, Burr-Brown componentry (maybe others too). I'm not 100% sure.

The PS Audio Digital link series might be the later models. I've been told the Digital link I and II came before the "Super" and "Ultra" but after reading up on the Digital Link III, it seems it may be post- Ultra and Super, with a 24-bit chipset. Conflicting info so far, and not lots of info out there to clarify.

The EAD stuff is nice looking- I see a few pop up with the gold polished faceplate. Very sharp.

Have you seen the DSP-7000? I wonder how that compares to the EAD 1000...

Anyhoo, I don't see much difference betwixt the EAD or PS Audio units- both very nice. I wouldn't mind grabbing a second Dac of either make.

thats good to know, i was guessing that the PS Audio might be slightly better. my EAD is the 1000 MK II, but its supposed to have been upgraded to an MK III.

Maybe the PS Ultralink II, but I'd wonder if even the MK I EAD 1000 has the Superlink beat.

If so, it's nominal- I'd be glad to have one of each, or two of one brand or the other.

We're lucky fellas!

sometimes thats an easy thing to forget ...

i should be enjoying my system more and work on it less.

Nothing ever wrong with striving for excellence, my friend.

speaking of, I got a check for you. I'll try to mail it out to you this week. Maybe you can use it for that planned DAC update...

no rush on that Paul, i'd prefer that you use it to get the needed surrounds. as for upgrading the DAC, i'm only thinking about it.

thedelihaus- 11-25-2007
Well, if you do it, and I don't run across a second PS audio or EAD in the meantime, I'd be interested in yours.

Well, the normal modding, plus a new and better clock. Also some adjustments to the powersupply. All in all I am very pleased with the improvements.

Well, I called the modifier to ask about the transport mechanism again and he is very sure that it is not a CDM1. At least not in my WT3200. Now I am thinking that this transport was maybe sold with different transports over time. I've now send an e-mail to Wadia with the serialnumber, so I hope the can tell me more about it.

Also the CDM1 is not sold anymore, but there are still lots of them out there being sold secondhand, so obtaining a spare is not that difficult, but again then I want to be sure I am getting the wright transport.

I am getting an EAD DSP 7000 to -*test*-('") on friday. I own many DAC's. One of the is a PS Audio Digitallink II and this is a very good DAC. Yes it is old, but it will beat many new DAC's. Just take my word for it. If you can buy an older PS audio DAC cheap, just buy it and compare it with your current DAC. You won't regret it.

IMHO it will be fun and educational to see some pics of the insides of both Wadias. wink.gif
What you guys think of that?
