How about a thread of strange foods, real ones that you know of. Maybe something weirder than haggis or muktuk.

I know that in Asia, there are some strange takes on the theme of pizza, including a lot of seafood pizzas. The most exotic I ever heard of was Japanese Squid Ink Pizza. The informant said that it did not taste bad, but it turned your mouth black.

I was stationed in guam for 18months and had this along with chicken kelaguen, it was pretty darn good for being raw, even though it wasnt raw.

I does, and quite an intensive one, at that, as well as some thin grainy texture.

I´m not particularly fond of it, though.

The "StinkFruit", also known as Durian.

Durian is a fruit which is well liked in Southeast Asian countries, but westerners usually do not want to try it because it has a pungent smell that is difficult to describe. Some people compare the penetrating odor of durian to cheeses like limburger, others are more creative- overripe cheese. Rotting fish. Unwashed socks. A city dump on a hot summer's day, carrion in custard. Airlines and hotels in Southeast Asia do not allow clientele to enter them with durian in their possession. Durian has a very thick and thorny husk, which usually is opened with a machete or large knife. The color of the skin is yellowish green. Inside there usually are large sections [phuu] that are pale yellow in color and covered with a thin membrane undetectable to the tongue. At the center of each section is a large, brown seed that is discarded. The flesh is like a thick, rich, mildly bittersweet custard or soft cheese like brie. The durian is roughly the size of a soccer ball. The very best durians are, per kilogram, the most expensive of all fruits during a normal harvest year. It is often eaten with sticky rice and coconut cream or used to flavor ice cream.

Menudo? I'll have to look that one up. soundt/dontfeedmod.gif soundt/yummy.gif soundt/drool.gif

Oh, yeah, I remember that stuff now. Just checked on Wikipedia, and it all comes back. Years ago, I went with some friends to a little AUTHENTIC place on the west side, and one of the gals in our group was eating the stuff. It smelled as expected, and I made a vow to myself that I would never, never, NEVER, ever kiss her. It seems funny now. [now, what happened to the barfing smilie?]

Jorge,

Here you go- from allmusic.com-

"Formed around a cast of lovable teenage Puerto Ricans (each of whom were forced out once they reached the age of 16), Menudo was the first Latin group to gain success around the world. The initial lineup formed in 1977 around brothers Carlos, Oscar and Ricky Melendez plus Nefty and Fernando Sallaberry, but the first replacements were installed before the end of the 1970s. Menudo made a medium-sized splash in America during the mid-'80s -- though all of the original members had long since passed -- with the 1984 LP Reaching Out, which included English-language versions of their biggest hits.

Though Menudo's brand of disposable synthesizer-pop dated and faded quickly in America, the group continued to rule much of Central and South America, and ousted member Ricky Martin made a successful solo career. By the late '90s, there were over thirty ex-members of Menudo, and the then-current version of the group -- known as MDO and including Alexis Grullon, Abel Talamántez, Didier Hernández, Anthony Galindo and Daniel Weider -- included no native Puerto Ricans and none under the age of 16..."

No problem, I'm quite used to discussions going in unexpected directions. Always remember that I'm an ex-Libertarian: "Ain't nobody's business if you do,"
