Just trying to share a little smile.gif

Here is 4 out of 6 Pioneer DSS-9's
You can also see my work in progress DSS center channel on the floor - I am actually using a Klipsch center at the moment as I need to find a good, small, graphite cone woofer to use in the custom center. I even cut down and re glued an extra grille and used original crossover to make the matching center channel!

Carver amps on them with a Sony 555ES receiver.

I wanted to try Sony TA-N55ES amps on them, I recently changed to these amps from a matched pair of Sansui. More power from the carvers in a little smaller chassis - still wish I could match everything up though.

P.s. - ALL of the sony gear will go before the speakers do! smile.gif

nice rack ...

thats quite a lot of speaker for that small of a space, or is the pic just deceiving? have you tried the stacks in a different configuration such as invert the top pairs or placing them on their sides? i ask because you can achieve sometimes remarkable improvements from simple placement adjustments.

great looking system, I bet it sounds great.

Thanks!

I have tried the top pair inverted, it sounded excellent like that, however with both pairs right side up it makes the sound stage seem larger than life - more vertical dispersion across the whole spectrum. The ribbon tweets do an excellent job of not spraying sound vertically, so it's not reflecting off the ceiling or anything.

With that big TV in the middle it sounds just right on movie soundtracks so that's how I leave it for now - when I get the time I thought about making stands to put them 24" high, and side by side, unless I get a bigger living room, in which case I think 7.1 will be in order.

The picture isn't deceiving, my living room is 14' wide by 22' long, one pair of these with good power was more than enough for this size room, but hey - three pairs is better than one, right? smile.gif I plan on adding a second subwoofer in the near future, or maybe getting a bigger one.

I have the front two pairs, and then one rear pair wired as mains for stereo music. I turn the rear ones off to watch movies, and they have a set of Bose 201's on top of them for actual surround duties. They spend more time running music - according to the meters on the carvers, about one watt for general listening, and about 80 when I turn it up.

If anyone knows anyone with some S-1010's for sale, I might be interested to try them!

care to give up a set of DSS-9? i'm on the beat for a pair...

fiftyone50- 03-23-2009
Not really. I would still like to find just one more set of these with the black baskets. (DSS-9 Euro/DSS-E10)

Don't worry, MacGuyver, I have you in mind if I run across a set of the silver framed USA DSS-9's, I keep a constant eye out for DSS sets, and had planned on pointing you in the right direction when I eventually ran into some.

I finally opened the box to my "brand new" DSS-E6's..... hooked them up and they sounded SO awesome!!!! HUGE bass when about 2 foot from the corners. That wonderful sensation disappeared half way into the first song, the bass just quit, I looked at the speakers and sure enough, the foam had ripped halfway off both woofers. I was kinda disappointed, but halfway expected it. Even sitting in a sealed box for 20 years the foam rots :|

Anyway..... if you're serious about wanting a set, PM me an offer. I am almost sure you won't want to pay what it would take to pry a set away from me.

P.S. - I still have the S-710's that I'm not so partial to?

I'm familiar with those Pioneer speakers.

You are lucky to have so many, indeed.

Had a pair of near-perfect woofers I shipped off to a friend who had shattered cones.

I like stacking identical speakers!
