I made it to an estate sale and picked up a couple items. Apparently, he spent a lot of time transferring vinyl to tape and then cd (also picked up Toast software). Boxes of used cassettes and racks of old lp albums. People handling the sale told me there was a R2R but no tapes and another tt that were sold earlier. Have a feeling it may have been a Pro-Ject tt ohmy.gif. Bummer, as the prices were really good. Also saw an empty case for a Stanton 881 MkIIs cartridge. The remaining tt was a Technics budget linear. No vintage pieces and I left some Optimus mixers. Have no idea what the Esoteric is but it is in a home made walnut case.

As always a great score. soundt/thumbup.gif Tanx for sharing.
Keep us posted about that Esoteric unit. In today's digital world Esoteric is a legendary high end division of Teac Japan and is well known for their VRDS transport, considered by most to be the best in the world. wink.gif

The Esoteric looks like some sort of device that will encode or decode a signal with different EQ curves. That would certainly be handy for someone trying to restore or transfer very old records or tapes.

Maybe the first knob you select what EQ curve is being applied by the source (RIAA for instance playing a 78 on a newer MM cartridge) and the 2nd knob you set it to what the media is, like some other obsolete curve that the 78 is encoded in.

I have no idea, just speculating smile.gif

that's a hell of a find!! especially the TDK HX-S and those "SOUND GUARD" metal hub cassettes! a big, fat soundt/thumbup.gif to you!! i have no idea what that PHASE LINEAR unit is, but it sure don't look cheap!!

The Phase Linear 1000 was similar to the DBX and RG range expanders. The had the capablity to either expand or compress the range of the music being played or recorded, they also have the capability of noise reduction.

I have used the DBX and the RG versions but have never used the PHase Linear and would be curious as to it's performance.

Pretty good speculation. Here is a link provided me by a member on a sister site. There was a buttload of 78s at the sale. Haven't had the time to really investigate and audition the new toys.
