I recently got another Yamaha CDX-10000 CD player. It probably needs a new laser. Since the lasers are no longer available, you either already need to have a spare laser, or you have to cannibalize a Yamaha CD player that uses the same laser. Luckily I picked up a couple of spare lasers from Yamaha awhile ago. The CDX-10000 is now in the repair queue at Echo Audio in Portland. When I get it back it will go into a second system in what was formerly a guest bedroom.

Outstanding, Mark. soundt/action-smiley-035.gif

You´re probably the only person in the world to own two of those.

It's always wise to have some spares apart. soundt/thumbup.gif

Thanks Jorge. There's probably someone in Japan with 2 or more. I see CDX-10000's on hifido fairly often.

The NS-1000's will certainly be the speakers. Selecting the rest of the components is going to be tough.

I usually don't plan ahead for contingencies like replacing bad parts. A fellow Yamaha enthusiast mentioned picking up a spare laser from Yamaha, and I decided it would be a good idea to have a couple. A fortunate decision.

Reminds me when I used to own a Yamaha CDX-1100U until the laser stopped working.

Got the CDX-10000 back yesterday along with my replacement laser block. The problem was not the laser. Echo Audio's tech couldn't identify the original problem because someone without the competence to do the repair did a hack job on it and fried some parts.

It's hooked up to a Yamaha C-2x and Yamaha B-2x and Energy Veritas 2.4i speakers and it sounds great.

Glad everythings turn out ok, mostly because it's an incredible piece of audio gear. soundt/thumbup.gif

Thanks Alvaro. It will be the main source for my second system.

thats great news Mark,  now you have still have a spare laser just in case.

Kurt's tech told me that to replace the laser in the CDX-10000 with the HG-1 requires some additional parts and the supplemental service manual.

I called Yamaha parts and spoke to a service tech who just happened to be very familiar with the CDX-10000 and replacing the original laser block with the HG-1. He confirmed that there were a number of other parts needed to do the repair, and access to the supplemental service manual. Unfortunately, neither the parts or the SSM are available. I managed to talk him into selling me the service departments own service manuals for the CDX-10000.

So I now have the service manual and supplemental service manual for the CDX-10000. soundt/carrot.gif The HG-1's can be used for my CDX-1100 and CDX-2200.
