I just picked up a pair of Yamaha NS-10M's. They are the home version with grills and have matching serial numbers. IIRC, the home version is slightly larger than the studio version and that has benefits. I heard the studio versions and they were bright if not shrill. The home version is still bright to my ears but tolerably so. I like the sound but it does have limitations like almost no bass.

Yes, they delivered super flat frequency response with very little depth or warmth.
I know the studio version quite well. I was a musician for many years i was in studios many times. They are studio industry standarts and quite expensive now...
Imo they use that type of speakers to emulate an average stereo that almost a "normal" person have. Kinda like a kitchen radio kind of speaker. biggrin.gif

Ya aren't the NS10-Ms annoying. Never liked working with them at all. Ended up using my Ampex full rangers (from a video recorder system, kind of like auratones) for that type of work, ran from the NAD 3070e.

The Retro Store in Calgary has a really wicked pair of NS-15's (bit of cabinet damage). Weirdest design I have seen in a long time, sounded quite good (GF A-534B) and really a must have for the crazy studio types

This makes me wonder if "super flat" frequncy response really is bright...

I have to correct myself, the upright home version appear to be the same size as the sideways studio version.

Very interesting, thanks. At least with the grilled version, if I go with the T.P., it will be hidden.

I'm going to hijack this thread here, but a customer just called to offer me a Yamaha CR- 640 and a pair of NS8s. I can't find too much info on any of them. I don't need a receiver, but the speakers could work in my office system.

i had a brand spanking new CR-640 in 1979. it would make a perfect match with some ADS speakers, dynamite combo!

The NS-8 are also studio monitors, but with little warmer sound than the NS-10, maybe because they are three way speaker enclosures. Imo, if the price is right, they will work well in an office audio system.

If you get them, please post pics of the NS-8.

Unbelievable! I found another pair of NS-10M's!!

It might be time to turn them into cash and buy something really nice.

I've only seen one pair and never heard them. They sold for a considerable amount as they all seem to.

I decided to bid on a Kenwood KA-907 but lost. The final bid went over $700! I'm not sure what I'm going to get with this windfall but it will be something NICE!!!!
