Good grief Greg, I´m impressed.
What are those mid / bass horns?

Jorge

steamer- 07-08-2006
Those are Klipsch LaScala bass bins.Klipsch made what they called a pro version of the LaScala that was split between the mid/tweeter section and the bass.
They are 104db efficient and go down to about 60hz then my bagend subs pick up the rest down to 8hz.

Down to 8 hz?

Gee, that´s gotta be hazardous to your health, not necessarily your hears, but you risk rupturing your belly innards. ohmy.gif
Good thing there doesn´t seem to be any windows in that room. Given sufficiently high SPL´s they´d just crumble to pieces.

Fortunately music doesnt go that low and I dont have the power to get that kind of response. Also my room doesnt support that low?I have ran test tones starting at 12hz with no audible sound at my listening position then when the 16hz tone hit I could hear(feel)it.It wasdown somewhat then when it got to 20hz the level picked up quite alot.At about 24hz the output was normal all the way to where they cross with the Scala bass bins.

Steamer,

Given a good recording of Saint-Saens "Organ Symphony" you should get the whole place shaking. soundt/banana.gif

Steamer, when you heard 16hz, you weren't hearing the fundamental (human hearing doesn't go anywhere near that low), you were hearing harmonics and vibrations in the room. There is no doubt you felt it, though. smile.gif It's unusual for a human to hear below 28hz and almost impossible to find someone who really can hear the quote 20-20khz. AFAIK, no human has ever been able to hear this range that has been tested. 28-16khz is typical for someone with excellent hearing. 24-18khz is a freak.

Are your Bag End subs of the variety that runs entirely below the drivers resonant freq?

Talk about learning something new everyday. soundt/banana.gif

The 20-20khz has become such a common place in audio specifications that I took it for granted it was the rule, not the exception. unsure.gif

dnewma04,
Yes I agree with you,I have read that before.I guess the reason why it is said that you can't locate the output from a typical sub.I know I'm not a freak..lol,just speaking in general terms.
Yes the BagEnd is operated below its resonant freqency and is a highly damped sealed enclosure.BagEnds approach to low freq. reproduction is to take a sealed enclosure which has a predictable roll off of 12db per octive(phisics)and provide gain in proportion with a dual integrator circuit. The integrator circuit has minimal delay and phase shift compared to a low pass filter. The signals passed to the mains have thier polarity reversed to bring them back in phase with the low freqencies.
