Speakers comprise:
Visaton TL 16 H Horn tweeter ( Superb )
Visaton DR 45 Mid range compression driver ( to be upgraded to TAD or JBL someday - funds permitting ) on home made MDF horn.
2 Visaton Tiw 400 15" drivers in home made Jensen / Onken Box, made of 1" thick MDF, heavyly braced and lined inside with 2 mm. thick lead sheets, Weight of each box aproximately 90 kgs ( you´ll have to convert that to pounds ). All covered with real mahogany veneer, painstainkinly tinted, varnished and polished. Don´t know if this does anything for the sound, but it sure looks good.
System is actively tri-amped as follows:
Pioneer D23 Electronic Crossover.( 4 way, variable slope type, just great ).
Rotel RB 981 Solid State power-amp ( 160 watts / channel ) for the lower 15" driver below 80 hz.
Myaby VP 120 S ( 60 watts per channel ) KT88 based push-pull valve amp for the range from 80 hz to 800 hz. driving the upper 15" driver.
Antique Sound Labs AQ1002 ( 30 watts per channel ) 6550 based push pull valve amp from 800hz on. Some day I hope to replace it with some kind of single ended 300B based valve amp. That should be something.
There is a passive crossover in a box with 2 L-pads crossing the mid horn to the tweeter at 8.000 hz.
I have owned speakers like Magneplanar MG2.5´s, Linn Isobariks, Kef 104 mkII´s, and the like, and none of those even comes close to theese beauties.
TT is a Thorens TD 124 / Rega RB 300 / Benz Micro MC20E ( My beloved Sumiko BPS has recently died on me ) on a DIY plinth.
Pre-amp is a Bill Beard CA-35 tube model with a fantastic MC / MM phono stage.
Not seen in this old pic is my current Onkyo T-5000 analogue tuner and Sony SCD-XB770 SACD player.
