Dayna Kurtz - Another Black Feather

Finding her Beautiful Yesterday cover album clawing its way up my list of favorite disks, I couldn't resist treating myself to her latest album when I found it at Silver Platter in Seattle. (This is a great medium sized music store with a decent selection including over a dozen different MoFis on SACD and LP. Going to have to make a trip there when I have money.) It's quite a bit different, no surprise there, but I think it's growing on me. Definitely one of those albums where the cover and booklet art very much suits the mood of the music any maybe even help set it.

Dayna Kurtz - Beautiful Yesterday

Playing Another Black Feather twice consecutively just hasn't satisfied my need for a Kurtz fix, so on to my other album of hers. I really need to pick up Postcards from Downtown.

I'm discovering The Cowboy Junkies. Just the greatest hits CD. I've had it for a while but just now starting to appreciate it.

Tuatara - Trading with the Enemy

Until I found this at Goodwill this afternoon, I never knew Tuatara had an earlier, third album, just the better known Cinemathique and The Loading Program. I'm definitely liking it. Instrumental as always, but it leans more towards the jazz aspects than the electronic that dominated their later albums. I do very much enjoy their music, though when I played the one Tuatara album I had on me at Kelly's place when I was there, Scott just gave me a constant wounded look. Guess it wasn't close enough to Midnight Oil for his tastes.

What was the funky upbeat one you played here? I liked that group some.

That was their last album, The Loading Program. More information on the group here. Looks like they actually put out four albums, guess I'll have to look for that earliest one. Definitely won't find it locally. I spent an hour in Yakima trying to find a music store after the one I headed down for had gone out of business. Out of 9 phone booths I tried, 5 had their phone books stolen, three had the pages I needed torn out, only the last one I tried had what I needed. Of course, the one store I was able to find with it didn't have the albums I was looking for. Very, very frustrating.

Anyone into Danny Gatton? If so Check out Danny Gatten / Joey DeFrancesco "Relentless" Good recording with amazingly skilled musicians. Kind of jazz/fusion with some country flavorings (Gatton). there are also a few songs with real deep stand up bass that are good for testing speakers low range. My 50 YO rare KLH monsters did very well with it.
