I was just wondering if there are any members out there who roast their own coffee? I do and if you are a coffee lover there is just no other way to get the most out of a cup of coffee without roasting it yourself. Anyone interested? I will follow up with links and basic instructions if interested.

How does your house smell with all the roasting? I love the smell of a good french roast bean. I have no Idea on roasting, is it a pain, or easy? I just usually get a bag of beans and grind away, and whallaah, coffee. but I do love a good cup o joe.

Start by reading here...
My Webpage And here's basically what I do. My Webpage I don't do this indoors. Way too much smoke....I roast outside, or in a garage. This is way too easy to do and the coffee is amazing when fresh. Pick up a used West Bend Poppery II for anywhere from .50 to $5.00 and you are ready. I usally buy the beans from here, but there are other sourcs available. 2 cups of Joe -------------------- "I want ten Cadillacs and a diamond mill

I love coffee almost as much as I love my wife and vintage gear (in that order). I want to try this, we get our beans fresh roasted locally but to do your own sounds awesome, thanks for the links.

I guess roasting them with my Victor acetelyne torch and grinding them by driving over them with my hard tire forklift isn't acceptable in the industry, huh?
Just kidding. I love good coffee, but most of the coffee I drink is in my office, and too many customers come in and drink it. Most of them squawk because I don't have cream or sugar out here! -------------------- IN ORDER TO BE OLD AND WISE, YOU MUST FIRST BE YOUNG AND STUPID

Just roasted my first batch, gonna wait a couple hours to let it settle and cool, but I cant wait, I just kinda winged it, cooked the beans until they snapped and turned brown then I removed them to cool off. will give a taste test review in a couple hours.

the popcorn method, not sure if I got it right, the first batch was a little light and I ground it up after about 2 hrs, I know that isnt long enough but was anxious, but it tasted like folgers, that's why I know I probably under cooked it. will keep experimenting with it, and I guess drink tons of coffee.

Eeks, Folgers...something went terribly wrong! I've been looking around for a popper, there are tons on that auction site but i'd prefer to get one locally if I could. Where did you get your beans?

Got the popper from target, and the beans from the link listed above. It was "2 cups of joe" on ebay. I read some of the roasting directions, something I dont usually do, but it the beans taste like crap tommorrow, then I think I roasted them too long. but thats what the directions say. so we will see.
I got a bunch of beans to roast so I dont care how many batches i screw up until I get it right. I will never quit, well, unless I get tired of it. elroy This post has been edited by Elroy on December 04, 2006 11:21 pm -------------------- I got nothing

We get our beans (already roasted) from a very small local place that does their own roasting etc and it is fabulous. Coffee drinking is the last vice I have left and hugga mugga max just doesn't cut it! Here is a link to their website:
http://www.abeautifuldifference.com/webdoc5.1.html I bet your next batch will be better. I think there will be lots of trial and error with this process until it starts to pay off. -------------------- ________________________________________________

Ok, I read the directions and tried to roast to them, anyway, I have a batch done and am sitting here sipping on the juice right now. It is very smooth, no bitterness, very little flavor, very little of anything, so I think I am closer to getting a decent cup coffee. atleast it doesnt taste like charcoal like the last batch.
I am goin to do another batch in a bit and will roast them a tad longer, I think that will help with a stronger flavor. also I did notice that it is imperative to let the beans sit for up to 10 - 24 hrs. getting closer. elroy -------------------- I got nothing
