I know I know. I owe everyone a system review. I've had alot to deal with over the past weeks. I needed to get my orignal almarro amp replaced due to excessive hum. Found out they all hum to some extent. No biggy.

At any rate, I've started tube rolling. I bought a pair of RCA 6SN7GT tubes. These are getting harder and harder to find. This sits in the cathode follower circuit of the pre on the 318b. WOW. Not only do I get a heated light show but the sound even on crappy CDs is LUSH!!!!!

Thinking of getting a platter of 6SL7s soon. I will recable next year and bi-amp. My next big purchase will be to get a really good pre to marry the two. Luckily, my NAD AMP can serve as a pre in the interim.

Thanks for reading.

clear glass, american. had to switch the taps in the back of the amp for a boost in the highs. I switched from 4 to 8 ohms.

i had a pair of AES SE 811 amps for a couple of years. The first gain stage tube was the 6SN7. I bought a few different varities, including the RCA's. My personal favorite was the Sylvania "Chrome Domes". That was a darn fine tube. Actually, I also liked the Shugaung 6SN7, it worked nicely in this amp. A little lightweight in the bass, but otherwise quite good. But the Sylvanias, man that was a nice tube. Detailed, good presence in the mids, and dynamic. They were reasonably priced say 5 years ago, I wonder what they go for these days.
