Do you guys "really" like all these bouncing icons? I find them particularly annoying when typing a message. I have a reasonably fast computer, but they even interfere with the cursor, making it blink unaturally and characters may or may not appear as quickly as they should (may depend on other cpu load).
Perhaps the forum program as a setting when individual users can activate or deactivate the smilies portion of the screen.... ?? They remind me of back in the early 90's when I first got a sound card. I thought it was fantastic to have the computer play sounds /song's /etc when it booted up, when windows started, when certain programs started /ended, you-got-mail, when this and when that. But, it didn't take long to figure out it was a silly waste of cpu and system resources. I decided then (and in virtualy all cases since) that fast and functional beats fancy and distracting hands down if one really wants to get stuff accomplished. I know everyone uses computers differently. I'm what most would call a power user as I almost always (24/7) have 15-20 tasks running in the taskbar, consisting of email client, multiple spreadsheets & databases, multiple tabs running in the web browser, file manager, multiple tabbed text editor, plus the myrid other programs being opened an closed all day (and half the night). This on a network of 8-10 computers with the others being used to a somewhat lesser degree most of the time. Since this is the normal way I function, I figured out long ago that it's hugely more productive to get rid of the fancy screen themes, etc introduced after Win 98. First thing I do when setting up new machines is to revert settings back to classic windows interface. Have any of you ever watched someone go looking for a file when they don't know precisely where it is AND while using a non-classic interface. The folder and file icons with truncated names get opened one after another cause they have no idea what it in them. I say, why not simply change the damm thing so it shows TEXT folder and files names along with file sizes and dates.... usually they have no idea what I even mean. Well that's the general background I'm coming from so that might explain my aversion to the bouncing smilies...... Your mileage may vary... as they say... -------------------- Rick

you can deactivate them when reading post's, >My Controls >Board Settings (but disabling this function will also make posted images unavailable to you), but as far as i can tell there is no way to remove them from the screen when creating a post ... i'll look again. i dont use the smilies myself, but alot of the folks enjoy them and use them liberally. -------------------- Teledyne AR9, Yamaha B-2x, Yamaha M-2, Hafler DH-110, EAD DSP 1000, Wadia WT-3200.
