Rex Everything!!!
Paul, I can't thank you enough! for you ST members, I don't think Paul is a member here yet, I know him from Monsteraudio and AK. Paul has spent over 10 hours of his time through yesterday and today recapping my Setton BS 5500 with me. I've had a fun time chillin at Paul's house, talking and fixing. It's done now, and it sounds GREAT. I really appreciate it. Paul is a true friend. For recapping it, it turned out easier that I had thought. The Sanken discreets unplug from the driver board, which makes it MUCH easier. after unplugging these, we easily took off the heatsink and got into the board and Paul unsoldered the old and resoldered the new caps. Below is a picture of the BS 5500 with new power supply caps but the other caps (now replaced) are still stock in the picture. The driver board and heatsink are on the left in the pic: ![]() The boards parallel to the faceplate were a bitch, especially the caps in the bottom of the board. We had to reach down through wires and between a bunch of other crap to get to them. it took a while, but I am really happy and we (mostly Paul) got it done. The results are great. here is a pic of the boards parallel to the face: ![]() Now I am proud to say that I have a R.E. rebuilt amp! Once I pick up Paul's 846A altec valencia's, I will do an A/B test with the BS 5500's (recapped one and stock one) and post the results. Henry -------------------- Henry
