I bought this preamp/phono stage to use with my Onix SP3 and Music Hall TT. So far so good. I replaced the stock 12AU7 tubes with some Groove Tubes although they are new so all the tubes probably need some time on them. Build quality seems ok but I was surprised at how light the unit is. I've never owned a tube pre however so I don't know what an average weight should be. I'm plesed with the sound so far. It seems to be a good match with the Onix. I'll give further impressions when I've had a chance to listen more.

With the factory 110v transformer it should weigh 8.1 lbs and be tranformer end heavy. Hopefully you got a real one. Our rebrand is the GF P-307 (thanks for buying it from me smile.gif. You want to get a decent power chord on it with RF filtering and then you should be able to keep the tube covers off. You can read the review in January's Affordable$$Audio emag about how much better that sounded to the reviewer Stew. We all since have agreed.

On CD setting you should be able crank it to 10 with zero noise from the pre. The dual outputs is very cool too. Dump records to the computer tube processed and my personal fav, horizontal bi-amping.

Tube rolling is much fun as with any tube pre/amp, but we always seem to end up back at the stock Shuguangs, the GF versions come with the 2nd highest grade level (see noise above), the top line being gold pinned which doesn't help with normal sockets. There are 5 levels below it. Cryo'd Shuguangs reduce the noise floor too and sound great. New JJ 12ax7's also sounded really good.

Oh, we have a whole P-307 being cryo'd, will report soon on the results.

Ian

It weighs all of 8lbs so no problem there. You don't even want to know what I paid. Where would I get a replacement cord?

Ya, probably less than we pay the factory !!

Our $150 GF PC-1.5 Power Chord is reviewed here:

http://grantfidelity.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=172

And there is some more comments like it there too.

And you could buy it our GF store. soundt/banana.gif

It does wake up the sound of the pre-amp and just about anything it get's plugged into.
