The M-2 came out in 1979. Yamaha realized how good the design was and carried over the internal design to the pro audio PC2002M. Both amps are rated at 240 wpc into 8 ohm. The PC2002M doubles power into 4 ohm and nearly doubles again into 2 ohm! Source: Yamaha PC2002M owners manual. Both the M-2 and PC2002M manuals are available for download at Yamaha.com.

The first photo shows the M-2.

When I was shopping for and amplifier back in 1980 at the BX in Bitburg W.Germany.The M-4 I bought was setting right next to a M-2.Wished I would have had the extra $200...I really adore the M-2's

TBK: The PC2002M sells for about a dollar a watt which is my standard for a good deal. Factor in how good these watts are and the PC2002M becomes a great deal.

Avionic: I wouldn't mind having an M-2.

I looked at the online manual and I didn't see anything about running into 4 ohm. But I just looked and I saw 700Watts mono which would be 350@4 ohms. Pretty respectable.

By law, pro audio amps are not supposed to run speakers rated at less than 8 ohm so 4 ohm numbers are not published. Maybe this is some fire regulation... Looking at the graph of output vs. ohm, I read the numbers.
