Very nice radio. smile.gif
Very similar to the Philcos of that time. Does it work? wink.gif

I just finished the recap and put everything back together. no worky. sad.gif

going to take it back to my friends house tmrw and put it on a signal generator and see if we can't align it.

One of the G-58's that i thought was broken still lights up but I'm unsure if it works. I bet that one or more of the tubes is bad, regardless of whether it lights or not. but my friend has a tube tester to it's all good. wink.gif

Bad conctats...? Try to use some contact cleaner for copper and brass.
Here's an intersting mix i'd tried in my Vintage Radio, that you can mix at home:

Oleic acid mixed with standard Coleman Fuel. Oleic acid is an organic acid found in things like cocoa and olive oil and not considered dangerous. It is used for many things in industry ranging from lubricants to cosmetics to food flavorings.
My recommended mix with the Coleman fuel (naptha) or regular lighter fluid is 5%. You may also add acetone to speed up the drying time. wink.gif

Btw, here's an interesting link you may find useful:

well thanks guys,
I have gotten the volume control replaced. also was able to sand off the glass a bit on the 55 tube so i could solder the wire to it.

it works great and picks up about 10 stations in my basement. biggrin.gif

Thanks, Sam!

Note to all eBay lookers (this is now item 290290654672):
I can now pick up stations between 1000-1600 on the dial unlike what I said earlier.

I also thought that one of the 58 tubes was broken, but I was wrong, I must have mixed this radio up with my other one.
