I picked up a Marantz 2270 receiver off my local CL last night. It has a broken power switch but is otherwise in good working condition. It had a missing button cap and a dented knob, which I replaced from my stash. Anyways, a good deal for $50! Anyone have a power switch for my 2270?

It's the weekend so I'm giving my new 2270 a going over. I replaced all the fuse bulbs and also moved the Phono 2 indicator bulb over to the Stereo indicator. I can't imagine ever having two TT's setup but I will eventually get the bulb replaced. The power switch is proving to be more of a hassle. I'm thinking about taking the switch out of my parts 2226B but I think they are too far apart in rating. I'm checking that right now. While I have all the covers off, I'll give all the controls a good cleaning.

The lights look great and the sound is better than either of the two 2270's used to own. There is minimal crud and corrosion inside and that is good for tuner performance as the tuner gangs are very clean.

I've been chasing intermittent distortion in the right channel. Sometimes, it plays perfectly for hours on end. Other times, it is distorted on power up and stays that way. I gently flexed the driver board and the distortion came and went. It turns out the solder joints to the trimpots were no good. I reflowed them and all is good.

Sam,

Sounds like you know your way around a circuit board.

Congrats on a nice piece added to the collection.

You see boxes of them for sale (lot's of like 5 or more) on ebay, it seems to be a weak point in the design. Some folks even have a ritual when turning them on blink.gif . I just push mine in slowly and let it push itself back out, gently..I'm not sure what the issue is when they burn out though soundt/confused-smiley-013.gif IIRC it's the 2270 that has the most problems, even though the switch was shared with other 22xx's, any Marantz techs know if I'm right or just blowin' smoke? I hate to give out wrong info..

Fooled ya! Actually, all I know is what I've gleaned from watching my Tech fix my units. This one was a kindergarten fix. Anything tougher would have gone in for a service.

How did the hunt for the power switch go?

I scavenged a switch from my 2226 parts machine. I had to shave a button cap to get it to fit. Funny thing is the switch now works in reverse. Push-in is off and puch-out is on. I think it has to do with the orientation of the switch. One of these days, I'll get back inside and flip the switch to see what happens.

I took the WC-22 off the 2225 I just scored and moved it over to the 2270. I applied Howard's Restor-A-Finish and it looks much better. I used a Red Mahogany touch-up pen to fill in a small chip on the back and it is practically gone now. Usually I re-paint the grill but since the case isn't perfect, I decided to touch-up with a black marker. From when I first got the 2270 to what it is now is a complete transformation. It's a keeper for sure.
