Picked this up today with a Marantz 10B. Details in "Tube" forum sorry for the crappy pic but it's on its side on bedroom floor. More to follow.

Well, it only gets better. Late last night I was thinking about what the seller said and the demo. His opinion was that since the power light didn't come on the amp was non-op. I took off the top and got the bulb out and tested. Dead. I'm not the first in there as there has been some amount of work done. Couple pieces had burn marks ohmy.gif. Then I did some research. Found out that this amp requires jumpers soundt/doh.gif. On the way home I bought a new bulb. Spent the last hour with the amp. Installed the bulb and RCA cables (jumpers). Put the DMM in the speaker connectors and turned the amp on. Bulb lit up, nice. But, no reading at the DMM. So I waited. After about 30 seconds there was a god awful buzzing rattle then a pop blink.gif. Almost peed my pants. Then I looked at the DMM — 27.7 on the left and 18.5 right. Turned of the speaker switch and hooked up a set of Minimus 7s and a cdp with some "Sting." Carefully turned the speaker switch then the volume. I have liftoff soundt/jump.gif . Sweet. Left it to idle. Didn't push things as I think I should have the left board checked. My guess is the speaker relay also needs some cleaning as I have a similar noise with a Kenwood 7600. It occurs to me that once the seller did not see the power light come on he may not have hooked up any speakers. All I saw were his Altec A-7. The amp has taken a hit or two on the rear. One set of phono plugs are pushed in some and the accessory plugs are chipped. The "A" side speaker block has some major cracks in the plastic. Getting ready for a trip so it'll be a couple weeks before I get to play some more.

Great news! I like buying "fixer" units at the right price. That way, if the problem is truly a tech job, I have money built into the deal. If it is something easy, then SCORE!!

Let us know how your 1200 sounds. Curious, do you know which receiver equivalent the 1200 is?

The 1200 sounded very good last night through the set of Minimus 7s. Really need to hook up a larger set of speakers for the full experience. I think that I should either get the service manual or drop it off to have things checked, especially the bias as that can blow outputs, and maybe find out what parts were replaced. Don't know if the starter relay is original but it sounds like the contacts need cleaning at the very least. It is a sweet unit.

I believe that the 1200 is hybrid of the 250 power amp and 3200 pre-amp. It is rated at 125wpc@8ohms. Equivalent to the 2325 (also have one of those) in output. I was familiar with the 105 tuner as I have looked for something to match a 1060 amp but figured for the price I could sell the tuner and keep the 1200 basically for free. Almost crapped my pants though when I got home and saw it was the 10B tuner. Definitely two more keepers.

Quite a question to ponder, do you want to keep the tuner or, sell it for a pretty penny(s)? Hell, the cab is worth quite a bit, even with the chip on the bottom, I would personally keep it. Put it front and center in my main rig, it's such a lovely piece of audio history, that just happens to be one of the best!

Might be a little confusion here. I would never consider selling the 10B now that I have it. A bit rare and I don't need the funds. The ad I answered had identified it as the Marantz 105 tuner. That one I would have sold and kept the 1200. I was just recently toying with the idea of finding space to finally set up my SAE units. At any rate, anything major won't be done until after Thanksgiving.
