We Southern California members are fortunate to have the population of Marantz gear local to us. While my Marantz scores are not in the same galaxy as Hakka26's 10B and 1200, I have done OK of late.

Today, I scored again! It is a 2225 with wood case and fitted with the plastic protective covering for the faceplate. This example was not cherished by its former owner, it looks like it had sat in a garage for many years. The wood case looks decent enough and I think a coat of Howards Restore-A-Finish should do the trick. I'm going to transfer the case over to my 2270.

The selector switch shank was bent, which I very very carefully straightened. One of the switches was missing the cap and the plunger has come out. Luckily, I have all the tiny parts so maybe I can piece it together. Of course, this example needed the usual dusting, control cleaning, and re-lamping.

The 2225 sounds great. It is very fruity and engaging, much more so than the 2285B and the 2500 for that matter. The only downside is the 2225 struggles to make the kind of volume I like. At medium-loud volume, I can hear a little clipping but running hard is not the point of the 2225.

Congrats.

All of a sudden you score a 2225, a 2238 and a 2270 are you a Marantz collector? smile.gif

When you decide you don't need all your Sansui stuff and would rather have a Marantz 4240 Quadradial, I may be of assistance. biggrin.gif

Hey itlldue: The guy who gave me the AU-317 wants it back so it is already spoken for. It's a great little integrated amp and if it was a keeper, I would eventually have gotten the matching TU-317 tuner. S.

I have a TU417 packed away in a box that's just waiting for a nice small (?) amp. I'm thinking of using my 8080DB for my office when I find a nice small pair of speakers.
