this is my first ever PIONEER component, and my first ever serious audio component. it has continually served me so very well since i purchased it for $350.00 back in 2003. a $1300,00, 1990/1993 model, i consider it to be PIONEER's last great Receiver, and last great audio component to date. please do not take it lightly because of it's A/V functions; PIONEER added those on to a solidly designed stereo receiver capable of true High-Fidelity acoustic articulation. it might not be the match of a component AMP/PREAMP combo, like, say, PIONEER's own C-90/M90 ultimate fidelity stereo components, but it it comes awful close for a receiver, IMO. at any rate, for those with a preference for receiver based amplification, this unit is damned hard to beat...

SUGGESTION: substitute the supplied CU-VSX014 remote for a CU-AV200

Glad you like your Pioneer very much. For ease of use and convenience, a remote controlled A/V receiver is tough to beat especially for non-demanding listening conditions like when playing video sound. However, I would try the Pioneer Elite separates like the M-90, C-90, T-90 set that was made around that time. Your PD-91 CDP should give you an idea how good they were.

It's a great idea but, the last M90's I saw sold for $900 each (the seller had 2) I was thinking hard on those, just couldn't put the funds together, I'd be interested to hear what Macgyver thinks about the preamp A/V section when speaker upgrades call for more power soundt/action-smiley-035.gif and he adds an M90 or M91 to the mix! I'm not sure if Pioneer made Elite monobloc's but, man theat would look/sound purty... soundt/woot.gif soundt/master.gif

what is the T-90? i've never heard of it, and i have a VAST knowledge of PIONEER's reference/ELITE SERIES alone, and just as much concerning their STANDARD line. still, i dont think i'll ever have an issue with my D1S being inadequite; as i know i'll never have a speaker system as demanding or power hungry as the MARTIN LOGANs that the stuwster here has. i have confidence that the D1S will handle the PIONEER DSS-9s that are my ultimate dream speaker with the same athority that it has over the four-way CS-G503s that i currently own...

I stand corrected on the tuner model number. I just looked at my set and the model number is F-91.

Again, I'm glad you like your receiver and I respect your enthusiasm. However, there are very few receivers that can stay with a separates amp and that is the point I was trying to make. For example, the M-90 has dual transformers and circuitry.

ah. i'm well aware of the M-90. i've seen them before, inside and out. i'd have to make major renovations to my system arrangements to accommodate an C-90/M-90 combo. well worth the hassle, i'm sure, but for now, i'm satisfied with what i have, with the only major addition planned being a PIONEER DV-09 DVD player...
