My system is getting there. I'm running four Yamaha PC2002M amps (240 wpc) driving four pairs of NS-1000M's. Right now, this is a CDP only system so I'm doing fine without a preamp. I'm using Roland SEQ-331 monoblock equalizers to boost the bass below 60 Hz, otherwise flat. The CDP is an old Magnavox CDB-650.

very cool. i've heard NS-1000's only once and that was very brief, but it left a lasting impression on me. one pair make for a simply outstanding sound, i can only imagine four pairs. have you tried stacking?

i was thinking of inverting the top sets, but reverse the left and right speakers so that the mids and tweets are between the woofers and the drivers are vertically aligned.

I thought about that too. My stack job was quick and dirty because with the lateral setup, I was not getting proper separation. BTW, nice "cut and paste" job! |

if you do stack, try blu-tac between the speakers to couple them.

Yup! I went back to the lateral placement. We are blessed with great weather but earthquakes are a constant hazzard. I moved the corner speakers out from the wall and angled them to better focus at my lounge chair. Did some more listening this morning and I am satisfied. |

I can't believe someone would dump a Classe at a junk shop! That made my day!!
Unfortunately, now that I've had a taste of HIGH END, I'm looking at Classe CDP's and that's going to cost me. |

Thanks! I found some eReviews and some info. The SSP-25 came out in 1999 or 2000 with in MSRP of $3,000 and a street price of around $2,000! It is 5.1, DTS, and THX capable. Build quality if simply awesome. It has a 3/8 inch hick faceplate and a black anodyzed thick aluminum top with no exposed screw heads. The remote control is reputed to be equally amazing with an all metal housing similar to the top. After the preamp swap, I tried a variety of CDP's. I found many of them to be dark and somewhat tired sounding. In went my Denon DVD-3910 as a stop gap. It is more than just a (very) fancy DVD player. It is capable of SACD and HDCD, if I ever get into those formats. And, it is a tank with a substantial output amp section. Although I now know I will eventually end up with a Classe CDP, the DVD-3910 sounds open and airy and will do nicely. |
