here is a pair of very fine components, pre-amp and power amp, that are the unquestionable ultimate last-word in PIONEER amplification...

NOTE: the C-90 was superceded in 1988/89 by the C-91, a virtually identical model save for the inclusion of S-VIDEO switching, a CU-AV100 series programmable remote, and the deletion of that beautiful longhand in favor of the inane ELITE logo...

Beautiful gear Macgyver. Pioneer did manufacture limited edition gear that was usually not exported. About the only place to see that gear it is on The Vintage Knob.

nice, but smacks too much of today's minimalism to me. i'm a spoiled little freak; i like to have my cake and eat it too. if you gonna blow mucho deniero on stereo gear, why not have over the top sound AND cosmetics? after all, this gear is going to be spending half it's life powered down and serving as decor in your house, anyway. so why not have a system that's so gloriously excessive, even when off, that one has a difficult time peeling their attention from it? all i can say is thank god for the japanese excess of the 1980s...

I really dig the C-90. An attractive pre-amp, and nice that it's remote controlled.

If my Phillips SC-80 doesn't come back alive from it's second operation, I'd quickly consider this one.

As for the C-7, absolutely stunning. Though I'd like to see it in Urushi black.

McGyver, do you own the C-90? If so, what do you think of it's sound?

i do not own either of them, but wish i did. might however be getting an A-91D from the guy that i got the PD-M90X from:

it would be very handsome, but quite inconvenient, what with it's lack of remote control and all. a fine and welcome possible addition, nevertheless...
