...are the first person to answer the following correctly! soundt/confused-smiley-013.gif

This is a free MP3 download from Wally-Mart, by way of a code included with a CD I received for Christmas. Will play on I-Pod and any other MP3 player, according to the small print. You must redeem it soon, as it expires 1/31/09! I will PM or email the code to the lucky winner!

Tell me who is Karlhienz Brandenburg, and who was the artist and song from a commercial CD recording that he used to assess and refine a popular compression algorithm, and what is this compression algorithm commonly known as today?

Bonus points if you know the nickname given to that artist, because of the use of their song being used as the reference material for Karlheinz Brandenburg's work in the development of this compression algorithm!

Extra extra bonus points if you can tell me the former filename extension of what we know today as the .mp3 filename extension! soundt/awesome.gif

Karlheinz Brandenburg is an audio engineer who has contributed to the audio compression format MPEG Audio Layer 3, more commonly known as MP3.

I was just reading about him a while back.

K

BTW, you spelled his first name wrong.
