Maybe I should start a topic in the general section for talking about guitars/basses 'cause I'm sure I'm not alone here?

My two favourites are the Jaguar and the Yamaha bass that I restored from a virtual write off. I owned the same model Yamaha back in the mid-eighties but it was stolen from a gig. The black Washburn is my old workhorse that replaced the stolen Yamaha and I have owned it since 1988. It has been gigged to death and still feels like new. There's also, just our of view, a lovely Yamaha electric/acoustic. I think I need to refinish the Greg Bennett bass in black... the Yamaha acoustic is black... then there'd be four black and four sunburst laugh.gif

The Yamaha bass was originally black but I completely stripped and refinished it, did my own sunburst with linen dyes and then gave it a shellac finish. It's not perfect but I'm very proud of that one as I've never tried this sort of thing before. It was treated with new fret wires, nut, bridge, machine heads, new electrics, knobs and a set of genuine Fender P-bass pickups.

But the Jag and the '62 Princeton are just such a wonderful match and even though I am a bass player, they are definitely my favourites wink.gif

Next project (after the turntable) will be the restoration of the Princeton. I have already sourced and replaced two missing knobs, bought a yard of NOS grille cloth, ordered a new leather handle and a replacement Jensen C10R driver. It has some after-market driver in there now and while it sounds pretty good, it's not "original". The tolex is near perfect and doesn't need anything more than a clean. It was fully re-valved last year and hell, that is a gutsy 12W those two 6V6GTs pump out!

No way Elroy... at my hourly rate, this'd be the most expensive bass in the world!

But seriously, I never kept track of it but I spent a few weekend evenings, mainly the sanding and prepping. The neck took me virtually a whole Sunday and the rest was quick, even the sunburst treatment only took an hour or so. I'm no woodworker but it must be in the blood... dad was a carpenter, as was his father before him laugh.gif

Quite a collection... ohmy.gif
I've been a musician too, and i still have my bass rig and two guitars, a Music Man and a Ibanez which i'd modded to a fretless bass with an active EMG pickup.
Later on i put some pics. smile.gif

BTW, great job on the Yamaha. soundt/thumbup.gif

Yes clint.e, pics please! And thank you. I am actually pretty proud of the Yamaha and it has given me the confidence to consider restoring others, maybe more sought after ones wink.gif

Did you notice the autographed Strat?

Trace Elliot!!!... I hate you! tongue.gif

And a vintage Ibanez bass!!! I have played several Music Man basses and yes, they are damned nice!

My bass rig is a Peavey Combo 300 with a Yamaha three-way bin:

The Peavey has a 15" Black Widow and the Yamaha has the original Yamaha horn, original 8" Yamaha mid and a 15" Celestion bass driver.

clint.e... I've just popped a couple of the photos I took the night of the gig he signed my pick guard at... http://dairally.net/ed

I felt so embarrassed asking him to autograph the pick guard but he was so cool about it. We got to have a chat outside the venue (a little country town pub) while we smoked. It was such an amazing thing to be just idly chatting with one of my "heroes" about the weather and the beautiful venue and other silly little things.

Anyway, keep the ANALOGUE instrument/amp/effects pics coming wink.gif

EDIT: my favourite effects pedals...
