I'm looking at two EQs. One is a JVC SEA M770 and the other a Pioneer GR-777. Both can display as a spectrum analyzer. The JVC only has 7 bands, while the Pioneer 10. But I have noticed the JVC usually sells for around $150, while the Pioneer maybe $60? Is this indicative that the JVC is a better quality unit? Its definately bigger then the Pioneer. I know JVC claims they were the first to put out EQs, so I would guess they know how to make a good one. Any comments? Do either of them degrade the sound any?

I know MacGyver would support the Pioneer- since he has one, but anyone else have experience with either or the JVC?

i honestly believe that the prices have nothing to do with the relative quality of the two EQs in question. while, admittedly, the JVC is FAR harder to come by than the PIONEER, i rather believe the price factors to be solely coincedential. (after all, PIONEER always did have a far larger market share than JVC in the home audio industry. as such, it only makes perfect sense that JVC's EQs, a relative niche product in the large, varied pantheon of home audio components, are far harder to come by than PIONEER's) i've actually seen GR-777s that sold for around $40.00 or less whilst i've also seen examples that sold for $150 or more. it all depends on what the seller happens to believe their item is worth. so, therefore, in sum, scott, my friend, i personally recommend you choose the PIONEER with confidence, and without reservation, as i firmly believe it to be the all-round superior choice of these two fine audio components in question...

Another vote for Pioneer. Plus, the Pio is ten band and the JVC is only seven.

I think a SAE 2800 parametric EQ will take you to that special place. Waaay more control, no pretty lights, just the facts ma'am!

or maybe a 1/2 octave graphic EQ like zees..

Like Stuwee I prefer the Parametric EQ's, but if you are looking for the spectrum display you may also want to check out some of the offerings by Sound Shaper, they make some very fine EQ's both graphic and Paragraphic.
