I'm looking for another PIONEER PD-91 CDP

hello. i'm looking for a good, functional 1988 PIONEER PD-91 CD player. i was a damn fool, i got gutsy and tried to adapt the twin power trannies of the japanese PD-3000 i have to my functional PD-91 chassis. D'OH, how could i be so stupid?!?! now it no longer works, even though i reversed back to the original transformer. i learned my lesson in earnest, now i'm forced back to the DENON DCD-1500 i had before this beauty, and i'm so dearly missing all the minute detail and resolution of the 91. does anyone know anything about this? is it realistic to consider having it serviced, or simply replaced with another copy? i swear i'll never pull a stunt like this again...

did the fact that the US is 110 volts and japan is 220 have anything to do with it?

it's possible. i did in fact notice that when i had the JPN twin trannies on the 91 chassis, the AUDIO trannie got HOT during the short time i had it on...

The input voltage has nothing to do with this, just because you'd already played CDs with the player. Don't you? Doesn't the 3000 have dual transformers? One for digital and the other for powersupply and analog circuits? and the 91 doesn't have have only one? If there was a problem is on the transformer output voltage, or even the connections you'd made with the transformers wires when you connected them to the other cdp......
Didn't you check the output voltage in transformer's secondary coil before the swapping?

nope, i do not have any test equipment, nor any form of E.E. education. i just figured that the wires and their colors matched, so why wouldnt a direct swapping work? like i said, i was amazingly stupid, and it cost me a beautiful masterpiece. a mistake i'll never forget...

in sum, NAKDOC assured me that it could be fixed, and that goofs like this are typical in the world of modding. i call up Doug at AUDIO SPECIALTIES, LTD. in PORTLAND, the guy i got my VSX-D1S receiver from, and he says i'll be $150.00 to look at it alone. that's in replacement price territory, so i'll hold tight for awhile, and see if i can locate another one. after all, this example never was in the best condition, with heavy tarnishing of many of the copper surfaces, some small rust spots, ( and a large rust spot behind the transformer, that i did not know about until i removed the trannie to attempt my mod) and intact, but highly scuffed-up wood panels. only the 3000 parts i placed on it are minty. so, i'll hold getting this chassis serviced as a last resort. BTW, i've been considering attempting to use CD scratch remover to clean up the scuffs on the panels. i've used it with total success on scuffed acrylic display windows, and the gloss-finished veneer of the panels is a plastic as well, isn't it?

Did you ask Doc a price to fix it.

he did not tell me exactly, he only told me it would be fair. still, his service shop being in NASHVILLE, TN, i'd have to ship it. in the end, Doug in PORTLAND would make much more sense. PORTLAND is only 200 miles from where i live, plus, if for whatever reason i had to stay nearby when it was worked on, then i could stay at my grandmother's, a 15/30min. drive from Doug's shop, depending upon the traffic. at any rate, it'll be a while before i can get this problem licked...
