I have a set of ADS L520 speakers that I got some time ago but never listened to but should have before now. One woofer has a nasty rattle when trying to play music with low frequency information. I'm not cranking the hell out of em just trying to listen to some of my favorite music at a moderate level and evaluate their performance. So, if you have an extra 1 or even 2 woofers PM me. Thanks.

Are you sure the woofer needs replacement? Can you hear a hashing noise when gently pressing in on the woofer? Does it stop when pressing slightly off of center? If so, then maybe just rotating the woofer will work. Other possibilities could be that the woofer is loose or the gasket material between the basket and baffle has rotted away to break the seal of the cabinet. Then, when LF information comes through the air escaping can create a rattling or huffing sound.

Yup, it's the VC. Already performed surgery. The VC was all bent up on the bottom and the wire had unwrapped a couple of times. Reshaped the former. I got the wire back on, not as good as I'd like but it's on and super glued. Shimmed and glued the spider back in place. I'll let this one sit overnight. We'll see how it works tomorrow. I've got nothing to loose. It was a candidate for a toss out the second story window for a few minutes there. Nothing bugs me more than that rattle on LF information. I still want another one though.

Come on now, Kelly, be serious. Just look at the size of that cone, it's obviously a midrange. Jason needs a woofer.

As to that ADS woofer, sounds like someone drove them too loud with the bass boost or loudness contour on and bottomed out the driver. One would think most folks would get the idea to turn down the volume and bass when they hear a loud clanking noise coming from their speakers. soundt/confused-smiley-013.gif

Well, I seem to have fixed the old woofer. It's better than it was anyway. I'd still like another one though.
