I have a new turntable, cart, and phono stage. This post is a straight cut & paste from the AK thread:
On the recommendation of theophile (thank you!) I bought a Yamaha GT-2000 through HiFiDo. It's a 100V unit so I've got it hooked up to a nice quality Japanese manufactured step-down transformer. I've actually had the GT-2000 for a while, but I've been looking for a phono stage that is suitable for the Zyx Airy 3 cartridge that I got to use with the table. I finally found what I was looking for: a used Krell KPE reference phono stage with external power supply that I got on Audiogon. The phono stage arrived yesterday and I set everything up in my test system. Cartridge alignment was done using a Turntable Basics alignment tool which incorporates a Baerwald alignment protractor. The tone arm has a VTA adjustment, and getting an initial decent alignment and anti-skate set was very easy. I'll spend some time over the next week or so listening to it and tweaking the alignment. This rig sounds great right off the bat. The Krell is so much quieter than other phono stages that I've used. The Zyx sounds terrific. The low end is excellent, mid range and female vocals are stunningly lifelike. Sss's are clearly heard with no added sibilance. I love it! Enjoy the pics. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() [/QUOTE] |

Thanks Clint. Even with the expense of shipping from Japan the GT-2000 is a bargain. |

That's what i thought. Now, i can only have a slightest "image" the sound of this GREAt TT with a cartridge like the "Zikks"... A friend of mine have the zyx R50 in an Origin Live arm and the sound is just suberb. One question: Did it came with the carbon fiber Oyaide headshell? Many tanx for sharing this analog gems. -------------------- ![]() " Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be measured " Albert Einstein![]() |

Another question:
Did you tried plugged the TT with 110V? I ask this because all electric AC components have a voltage tolerance around 10 to 20%. -------------------- ![]() " Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be measured " Albert Einstein![]() |

The turntable came without a headshell. I bought the headshell and a step-down transformer from Joynetmall. I had a bugger of a time getting the cartridge mounted and I noticed afterwards that the Oyaide name silk screened on the headshell got scratched up. It is a new headshell. The step-down transformer is an Ariake UT-110W. |

congrats Mark. prior to this acquisition your vinyl section was the cleanest i've ever heard, i can only wonder how it sounds now. i'm not usually an envious person but your rig never fails to stir up those animal instincts in me.

I'm pretty pleased as punch with my DD systems, but they are run-of-the-mill compared to this.
Very nice indeedy. That arm looks interesting. -------------------- What you got back home, lil' sister, to play yer fuzzy warbles on? Pitiful, portable picnic players? Come with uncle & hear all proper! Hear angels trumpets & devils trombones. You are invited!

Just over 61lbs. The Target wall shelf is holding up even though it's only rated for about 45lbs. |

No, I'm not trusting at all. The Target wall shelf is extremely conservatively rated. It will support well over 100lbs. |
