Royd Audio - "The best speakers you've never heard of"....

Or so went the tagline.

Hand-built in the UK by Joe Ackroyd, these speakers enjoy a cult following in Europe but are virtually unheard of in the states.

A friend owns two or three pair- first time I heard his bookshelves, me and the others were peeking under the table for a hidden subwoofer.

Later I heard the towers he owns, and was dually impressed.

I picked up a pair on Audiogon a while back called the Sevens and fell in love wit these smallish bookshelves.

Another later bookshelf pair came up recently, tattered and unloved, but still proved difficult to secure. But I landed them!

One woofer is described as "bad", so I'll see what I can do to repair it. If it proves fruitless, I'll see what a speaker repair guru can whip together for me repair-wise.

Both these Sapphire models and Sevens will receive a new veneer sometime in the near future.

No pics of the Seven at Roydaudio.com. You might want to forward some...

Indeed I will. When the Sapphires arrive, plans are photos of the sevens and sapphires in detail.

Inside these is a cast tube of some blackish-blue, rubber-like gelatinous material. Looks like a severed horse penis- that sits betwixt the cabinet and driver. Kinda like a blunt Loofa sponge.

Gotta take pics...

I used to have the Royd Abbot.
For the money it was a great speaker.

Deserves an amplifier with a great deal of room definition in the reproduction.
This is one of these speakers big force.
