We humans are analog beings afterall as our most of our instruments but could our brain with millions of neurons either send or do not send i.e. binary, be a digital source....?! smile.gif

A neuron either fires or does not fire, and does that not make the brain digital?

Yet, our thoughts are analog, as far as I can tell.

Others point out that the brain is a hologram.

In my view, the brain is a transducer, based on some personal experiences when I woke up at times when I should not have...

The Mind (again, in my view) is elsewhere, and the "where" is perhaps the biggest question of all...

Welcome back to ST. soundt/thumbup.gif
Our thoughts could be analogue - unless we're thinking in ones and zeros... laugh.gif - but what trigger them are also electric impulses, there for imho thoughts are maybe the first hybrid source there we know of. smile.gif

i think perhaps a device that measures brain waves might interpret the results of brain activity as a digital signal, but the biological process is entirely organic.

does;
digital = mechanical?
analog = organic?

Nice to be back, sometimes I feel like all I have done is create a shipping and receiving job for myself.

Just prior to GF I worked with Dr William Tiller and others on a device that stores thoughts on a computer chip. Pretty spooky stuff. It is based on Subtle Energy and a movie called 'What the Bleep Do We Know' was made based on Tiller's work.

Prior to that I worked with Dr. Manfred Clynes, who invented the original Cat Computer for meausring brainwave activity and musically is a genius to boot. His software SuperConductor (which I worked on for a while) is the only computer program with emotion.

Transforming brainwaves into MIDI signals has been going on for a while as a musical controller.

As always, sound-thinking pulls through for 'the interesting'

Cheers,
Ian

heck Ian, you've kept some impressive company working with heavyweights like Tiller.

I've been pretty lucky to work (and learn) with many talented people. I actually have a really cool product to launch one day, already with Tiller's blessing. If you know Tiller's work and have some spare time, basic electronics building skills, I can use some help getting it off the ground. It's called 'Peace'.

btw, the synth in the background is a Vintage E-mu modular synth. Whenever anyone talks about media servers or computer audio, I say grab an E-mu soundcard, the DAC is second to none, seeing that they were at the forefront of DAC's in the early 80's and their gear is priced for musicians, not audiophiles ! Umm, worked with them too, the result being the circa 1996 software based synth/sampler Reality which is better than having 256 of those E-mu modulars. Remember me chatting about a 256 channel, 80-bit audio engine, that is what Reality sits on to create each synth voice. 7.1, 8.1, 11.1 surround, yawn.

Cheers,
Ian

Count me in daddy-o, i'm all for Peace! smile.gif
Tanx for the info concerning background E-MU synth. Imo, pro-audio gear have a lot of interesting stuff, but the things you've said about 256 channel, 80-bit audio engine...that's a bit scary.... soundt/eek4.gif biggrin.gif

And that audio engine runs on a PIII chip with a win9x OS. My last upgrade to the engine was in 2003 when I doubled it's power. Next time I play with it I will try 512 channels. Being MIDI controlled I can actually .... still have a few years left on the patent, but my lawyer has an implant in my brain, shut the f... up Ian.

PM me your email and phone number and we can chat about Peace.

Cheers,
Ian
