hey all! we're scheduled to be taking my PIONEER PD-3000 CDP down to PORTLAND, OREGON in a week to be worked on by Doug, the tech/owner of AUDIO SPECIALTIES, LTD. the shop where i got my first serious HI-FI component, my 1990 TOTL VSX-D1S stereo receiver, back in 2003. i trust him to handle my baby, as he has been in business since 1985, and he has survived to today, despite most of the PORTLAND area's service shop's recent demise during the last several years. despite that, he has managed to thrive today, so therefore he is receiving the honor of working on one of the very best CDPs in history. i am certain that it won't be cheap, but the physical beauty of this CDP, and it's unbelievable sound quality. the 1998 PIONEER DV-09 DVD player, much lauded in circles as an excellent sounding CDP, does not come even close to the PD-M90X six-disc ELITE CDP, to say nothing of the PD-91/3000. i'll keep you guys closely informed of all details, and i intend to be taking pics of my baby as it enters Doug's hands. never has any one single audio component given me as much sonic pleasure as the PD-91/PD-3000, with it's onion like multilayered sonic characteristics. once she's fit as a fiddle, she will serve me beautifully for as long as i can keep a stock of pick-ups from PIONEER PARTS...

Doug was a partner in a used audio business with Kurt Donslu who owns Echo Audio. Doug won't work on my gear. Apparently I'm too picky for his taste. This post has been edited by Mark B on June 28, 2009 07:14 pm |

regrettably, i'm going to have to postpone the trip for trip for a week or two. around a month ago, i was taken to emergency due to this sudden severe pain in my abdomen. the doc found out that it was my gall bladder, full to capacity of stones. they had to remove it. when i was recovering directly after the operation, my mother was there, and did not like the way i was breathing, so she got some nurses in, and they found that my O2 levels were low. they found that my lungs were partially collapsed, and put me on oxygen and breathing excersizes. i am much better now, but my mother wants me to see the doc a final time to be sure the lung is no longer collapsed before we go up. one of the primary reasons being that we will have to stay overnight at my grandmother's, and sadly, she is a HEAVY chain-smoker... -------------------- PIONEER VSX-D1S TOTL 130w/ch. MacGyver, I don't remember you mentioning your age, but I get the impression you are fairly young guy. Way too young to be having issues with gall stones. I don't want to sound like I am lecturing you, but you probably need to take a serious look at what you are eating or you may be headed toward more serious health problems down the road. Again, I don't want to lecture, but just felt concerned. You may be right as those are also gastrointestinal conditions, but in the end that is just another reason to be careful with what you eat. With that history I guess you know that, but not many Americans take it seriously enough now days. I hope your recovery continues smoothly. -------------------- Main 2-channel: Infinity RS 9 Kappa speakers (bi-amped), Adcom GFA-5802 (x2) power amps, Adcom GFP-750 preamp, Adcom GCD-750 CD player, Sony DTC-75ES DAT deck, Sony TC-K850ES cassette deck
