One of the advantages of being a Moderator is the ability to pin a topic. I know many of you don't have the passion for a GOOD acapella group that I do, but I felt like doing it anyway. After all, it IS music!

If you come across anything that catches your ear, post it here. Barber Shop Quartets welcome! biggrin.gif

Here's a group called the "Mixed Nuts" that I came across by mistake. Best I can tell they're from the University of Buffalo.

They're not the BEST I've ever heard, but do a pretty good job on this song. The one that caught my ear is the short girl on the far right. What a set of pipes!!

Tanx Larry. It's indeed a very interesting topic and also very underrated.
Being a vocalist for more then twenty years and a sucker for vintage rock'n'roll/rockabilly and a fan of the 50's sound i truly apreciate Acapella vocals expressions and of course Doo-Wop. soundt/thumbup.gif

Having sang for 7 years in school in Choirs (the last 2 Acapella) I have a great respect for singers who are able to accomplish this.

Here are a couple.

Janis Joplin Mercedes Benz

Grateful Dead National Anthem

Even if you don't like the Dead, give this one a listen, it was their traditional ending to a show.

Very nice Larry! And as a bonus the Babe on the right would be a fine Babe of the day.

I can't post a link since I'm on an iPhone, but there's a girl named Petra Hayden that does a complete album cover, a Capella style, of the Who's "The Who Sell Out". Fantastic.

She also covers "Don't Stop Believing" by Journey.

Another great band is Miranda Sex Garden. Thier first album, which I picked up today used for a whopping $2, "Madra", is all madrigals and traditional 1800's (or 18th century?) songs, and is pure a Capella.

Later efforts were not as pure- mating the three vocalists with industrial and experimental sound.

Another band that is good, though I can't claim a favorite, is the "nylons".

Glad to mail it to you if you send me your address (I think I still have it). It is on vinyl.
